Felice Newman

"After a number of summers in Provincetown, the urge to grab a pallet knife and push color along a canvas became visceral. I discovered my fascination with mood and emotion in the movement of colors and textures across the canvas."

Felice Newman was born in New York City in 1956. She co-founded Cleis Press in 1980, which has been a vanguard of independent publishing for 33 years. She was inspired to begin painting in Provincetown during her stays on Captain Jack's Wharf as she watched the horizon-sky, land and sea trading their colors back and forth in an endless conversation. Her first influences were Mary Giammarino and the many other plein air artists who work here. She is a student of Harry Folsom, working with him in Provincetown and New York. Her paintings are sold in New York, Palm Springs, CA and Provincetown. She lives with her wife in Palm Springs, CA and in Provincetown.
